Formula for beginners with great results below in my comments.

First drywall texturing for me. Super easy to use and set up. You will need to purchase a female quick connector to insert into the end of the air compressor hose. I needed a slightly smaller grain splatter texture to match my walls. I spent four hours watching every YouTube video I could find trying to figure out what to do. I ended up setting the air compressor to 90psi and wide open the throttle on that funnel. I used a medium tip. I used Green Top drywall mix in a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot. Slowly add water until the batter is the consistency of a very thick color. Thicker than pancake batter. Shoot the texture very aggressively from about 2 to 3 feet in a circle. Here's an important point. My air compressor was a 21 gallon, 125 max psi, center air compressor. If you drop the air pressure in the tank below 90psi, it will start spraying heavily. I chose to only spray 45 seconds to 1 minute and then just leave the valve open but remove the spring to allow the pressure in your air compressor to drop enough to restart the engine. Wait for it to refill to its maximum PSI and then start spraying again. This gave me a very consistent spray pattern. If you have a smaller air compressor, all you have to do is spray very briefly, maybe 15-30 seconds, wait for your compressor to turn on, let it fill completely, then flush and repeat. Cleaning couldn't be easier.
