Installed on a Dell xps 8930 with Windows 10. The power supply on the card is IDE. My power supplies in my computer are SATA. No power source was required to download videos from my camcorder to my computer. I'm using Canon Vixia's Premiere Pro - it works great. No drivers need to be installed.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Modern

Requires 4-pin power: I/O port cards

The card is installed and recognized by my old Dell Win10 desktop. The only catch was that I didn't have a 4-pin power supply. I had to buy an adapter cable to use the existing SATA power connector.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • I don't remember

Some trouble installing, but worked fine afterward

Like the other reviewer, this was the second FireWire adapter card I tried. I needed to connect a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 audio interface to a new PC running Windows 10 version 1909. The first card I bought was a StarTech brand card from NewEgg that didn't work. After plugging this card into the PCIe x1_1 connector of my Asus Prime Z390-A motherboard, the system will not POST at first. I tried several BIOS settings (with the card removed) but nothing allowed the system to boot with this card…

Pros
  • Quality build
Cons
  • Negative experience

Works with Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and ASUS TUF GAMING X570 Plus WIFI

I tried a FireWire adapter with a VIA chip that didn't work by connecting my Saffire Pro 40 to my new ASUS TUF GAMING X570 Plus WIFI build, so I spent a bit more on this adapter and it did is working! Nice.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Simple, simple simple!

The product arrived a day early which is very good. I just popped it into an available slot and it worked - less than 2 minutes of work! My system is Windows 10 and my new motherboard didn't support 1394 but I needed it for an old audio interface that required a 1394a connection. The driver is built-in so you don't have to download and install legacy drivers - a nice touch. Simple and simply flawless so far.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Nothing here

First PCIE card that worked on Win 10. Non TI IC cards won't work

I used 3 cheaper cards each using VIA IC or FPGA to capture DV video for a client. VIA-based cards PCIE cards were causing BSODs, appearing and disappearing in Device Manager, or just doing nothing. As a last-ditch effort before telling the customer that the Mini-DVs would be shipped to a mainland lab, I bought an Ableconn card, remembering that Texas Instruments chips were used in the original Firewire cards became. The Ableconn card uses TI IC. I used a card with WinDV. Success! I still can't

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Socket required
