NEVER WORKED: USB to VGA adapter

I ordered some accessories for my home office and this was just a version of several USB-C to DVI adapters I've bought. The first. arrived and the computer recognized the "monitor" but there was no video signal (no image on the monitor). I replaced the second one with the same result. Both units I ordered were defective and although the computer recognized that my Apple monitor was connected to my MacBook, there was no image on the monitor.

Great - if it works

I needed a new adapter to connect my second Mac monitor to my new MacBook Pro. It annoys me that Apple keeps changing plugs/adapters etc in their products. When I first plugged this in, the screen lit up, then went off after a while. It went on and on the first day. Now it seems to work more reliably, I don't know what the problem was on day one. Either this thing or the cable to the second monitor is cranky, I've noticed that if I accidentally bump into the cable it sometimes causes the second

Plug and play, good to go!

Works. I have two old Dell monitors with DVI and a brand new HP Elitebook with an HDMI and USB-C. One monitor got a DVI-HDMI adapter and the other got this DVI-USB-C adapter. Now I have two monitors on my laptop. Combine that with a true wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse and I have a very inexpensive workaround to avoid paying $300 for an HP dock. I recently upgraded my MacBookPro to a newer 2019 model with four USB Type-C ports.
