Thin and open outline, good for measuring and marking tools

Very thin compared to those sold in store. Also, the loop is not closed, causing your tape measure to get caught in the loop and falsifying your measurements.

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • boring packaging

Not as shown.: Marking tools

Article not as shown. The hinges are open, not closed, and they feel quite fragile. They are definitely not up to standard and will likely not last long with frequent survey work, especially in an area with heavily compacted ground.

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Modern

High quality, right price!

Exactly what we need for site measurements! I just picked up the second set so I have supplies for all our project teams! Update 4/13: Bought a second set so I have enough to upgrade all the gauge sets!

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Repair

Not so good: Marker tools

This is an open loop, not a closed loop like the pictures. The description says the pins are spring steel, but the pins bend very easily and stay bent. Just pull the band tight enough to bend the pins a lot. If the steel is indeed "spring steel" then it is clearly not hardened.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Wrinkled

so good. As a note

Just received it and only used it once - so far so good. By the way, a few years ago you could buy chain pins and they were solid steel with a closed eyelet at the top. I haven't found them with a closed circuit for several years. This may not be an important feature for some users, but it is important for me. I bought this particular product because the picture shows a closed loop. But they came with an open circuit. I've come full circle myself.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Updates available

Does not conform to the standard: measuring and marking tools

These pens are slightly better than the last set I bought but they are not rigid enough for real work. The top ring is open. If the pin bends when you pull the strap, the strap climbs up the pin and enters the loop. When this happens, a measurement error occurs and the work has to be repeated. I have chain pins that I have been using for twenty years, they are spring steel, have a closed loop and do the job well. These are slightly adequate but by no means high quality chain pins. I got the…

Item too blunt Design should be better

These pins are not of the design quality I expected compared to the pins used in the past. They also can't compete with well-designed chain pins. I think that whoever designed them was not engaged in geodetic work at all. This is evident in many aspects of pen design. • The tip is too blunt. You need something sharper to use in all ground conditions. • The pin needs to be slightly thicker in diameter to make it stronger. Maybe steel is better? • The ring should almost touch the shaft so that…

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Interchangeable
