American Metalcraft 14X15 Wood Pizza Peel - 8-Inch Handle, Brown Review

I believe this is the short handled version of the Peel that features in Ken Forkish's books. Very solid construction. Thanks for attention.

This is a nice, old fashioned, pizza peel. It's a bit wider than I thought it would be which is nice but I had to drill a hole in the handle to be able to hang it. I'm careful about making sure that both sides get wet when I clean it and make sure that air can get to both sides while it dries to prevent cupping but it still has a bit of cupping--not really a problem. I usually don't even have to wash it since I usually use cornmeal or flour but occasionally something spills over on it making…

I really loved this peel when it arrived, it was nice and smooth and the perfect size for a 16 inch pizza, launching was an ease with this guy. Unfortunately after about 2 pizza sessions and only about 1 month of purchase it started to bow a lot. Now it has gotten so bad it's not really reliable anymore. See the picture! Wood pizza paddles work great to create your pizzas on. Keep it floured or use corn meal to help prevent the dough from sticking. Pizzas slide off of it easier than metal peels.The thicker material does not make it ideal for removing pizzas from the oven, that's where a metal one works best.Warning: do not cut your pizza on the paddle as it will leave marks.I'll drill a small hole in the handle to add a leather lace to store it easier by hanging it up.

I bought this because I needed a peel for my Ooni koda oven. But the peel is too thick (1/2inch) and is hard to use. You have to tilt it 40 degrees in order to launch or retrieve the pizza. Retrieving the pizza is almost impossible since you have to tilt the paddle to a high angle in order for the tip of the peel’s lip to touch the bottom of the stone. In order to use it you have to pull the pizza by the crust with your hangs to get it on the peel because the peel is so tall. Whoever designed…

I should have looked at the other reviews more closely. I purchased this specific peel based on the image of a long handled one. After receiving the item and reviewing the description, I see that the peel handle is only 9 inches. We were looking for something longer. The item itself looks fine and we will test it in a few days.

I don't understand all the reviews saying this is a bamboo paddle. It does not look or smell like bamboo. According to my woodworking husband the paddle i received is birch. It is a well made pizza peel. I got the large one and at first I thought the handle being short was going to be a problem. The picture is misleading and the handle is not that long. Picture shows a very long handle on all three items in the photo but in person it is a tiny little handle and cannot be easily used as a piece of peel.

It might seem lame to like something so simple so much, but it makes taking a pizza out of an oven a snap! Super quality! I intend to see this in my kitchen for the rest of my lifetime.then I'm sure my son will take it from there.

I am a steel peel fan but my son-in-law, for whom this was purchased prefers wood. I see that the fresh spread pizza dough is less likely to stick to the wood than it does to the metal peel. Keep in mind for those shopping around that the wood peel is (of course) much thicker than the metal peel but the ability to slide the dressed pizza off the peel outweighs the issue of how thick the peel is. He may have converted me and this is a nice peel, a good size and it arrived well packed and quickly
