Description of Aquaneat Reticulated Sponge Filter Aquarium

Dimension: 23" Lx 12.25"W x 2"H, PPI: 40 black fine. The open cell sponge has a much larger inner surface area for filtration capacity. This filter pad can be cut to fit and used as a pre-filter for any aquarium or pond filter, sump, wet/dry, canister, power filter etc. or your HMF DIY project. The reticulated structure also provides better flow rate of water and less chance of clog. The size of pores is measure in pores per inch (PPI). The sponge with higher PPI has more pores in it. More pores means larger filtration capacity but with less water flow through rate and needs to be cleaned more often. It is recommended to use combination of sponge with difference PPI to get the best result.

It's green, 30 pores per square inch

With this filter sponge you have made a Hamburg mat filter. It's in a 55 gallon tank and fits perfectly. I could cut it shorter but I like the way it sticks out or the fountain pump that recharges the filter. Very happy with this purchase.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Not for everyone

I searched for a size and it was big enough for a large cloth filter. Perfect right? Well, if it weren't difficult to transport and didn't deform right in the middle. Yes, it would still work. But when you're setting up a beautiful shrimp tank, who wants that nasty deformed crease on a new filter.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Can't remember

Worked great for my DIY windshield!

Love this foam! I didn't buy it for the aquarium, but as a self-made microphone windscreen. I wanted a thicker, more porous foam than what most windshields are made of, and the only similar product I could find was around $60! It might be the perfect replacement, but I think my vinyl records sound a lot better after switching to this sponge. Thank you!

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Some little things

VERY coarse open cell foam filter

I bought this coarse foam filter to upgrade my Marineland Penguin mounted rear filter. Ideal for individual cutting and packaging in cavities in your filter. The foam is so coarse that water can pass through it with almost no restriction, so there is no chance of water pooling behind it and causing an overflow. I have an inlet pre-filter so I don't notice the foam picking up dirt, but I wring it out of the old tank water every week or two and it's clear the foam has a lot of bacteria living in…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Excellent seller. Good product.

When I got the foam it wasn't even remotely neon green, in fact it looked old, dusty, with a horrible smell and bits of a different color interspersed all over the sponge. I don't know whether to trust him or send him back. All my fish are my pets and I don't know if I can risk using this sponge. If I were someone else I would not purchase this item. TO UPDATE. As soon as the seller found out what happened to the sponge, he offered me another one for free to replace the bad one I had received…

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Don't really like it's ok

Ideal filtering for HOB filters!

I have a hanging filter (HOB) and I LOVE the ability to modify it to increase the surface area. This sponge is porous so doesn't clog easily, but adds a lot of surface area for filtering. Being able to crop it to the size I want is great because I can stick it in any corner of the filter! I have paired this with Aquaneat ceramic rings. The inlet pre-filter sponge keeps the water in my aquarium crystal clear. The only thing I could say could be improved is just cosmetic. The black version will…

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Excellent filter sponges.

I have all 3 grades in my freshwater sump to minimize maintenance and am very satisfied. The blue is great at trapping large particles (food, leaves etc) and the shrimp cling to it and I haven't had to clean it in over 6 months. The green filter is next in line and seems to do the most work when it comes to fish waste, it's the one that needs cleaning the most. I installed the black filter last, it's good enough to be used as a drip tray over the biobeads or as a final step to remove haze or…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not sure

That's all I use. - Aquarium Pumps and Filters

No matter what filter we use, this is the ONLY material that we build into the media chamber (see note 1) by cutting the foam. We do not use BioMedia ceramic or pumice stone. We do not use charcoal (or purigen) unless we need it to remove medication from the water. The cost savings from using this method are huge, and the maintenance is almost nil. This method is an adaptation of the Hamburg-Matten filter, more information can be found on Google. To start the nitrification process we use…

Pros
  • Ideal for Outdoor Activities
Cons
  • Low Maintenance
