The black plastic housing contains an aluminum(?) tube that can be bent/mounted depending on the location/need. I had a shorter one from another car but it didn't fit my new Jeep Grand Cherokee. So I bought the 22 inch. It is a bit difficult to install the screw on the passenger seat. The bracket is too big to fit in the hole with the plastic plug removed. It is not possible to remove the entire piece of plastic covering the end of the seat track without removing the entire seat. After a lot of research, measurements and calculations, I bought this item in the 22 inch version. It took a bit of engineering to bolt it to the floor in my '91 XJ, but it eventually made it to the kit.
