Good price and fits my socket

I have a socket that I bought on Ebay. This 8/32 tool fits my riveting tool. Mine looks exactly like the Astro Pneumatic Tool 1442 so I took a chance and bought an 8/32 tool and it fit perfectly.

Pros
  • Very good quality
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Does the job, but I'll repeat that too.

Serves its purpose but I would also like to reiterate that due to the size they are more likely to break with moderate use. I'm ordering another one to replace a tool that just broke after about 30 uses (probably my fault for using too much force).

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • So far so good

Machined Steel Nuts in Sheet Metal

I used this with the Astro Pneumatic Tool 1442 Rivet Nut Setter to install 8/32 steel rivet nuts in 18 gauge sheet metal. It's great for the job, but it's easy to overtighten and damage the rivet nut, so it might help to practice on scrap metal first to get a feel for it.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • Expensive

Seems to be working fine. for riveting machines

Worked fine for me. I think because of the thin size of the mandrel you really can't "squeeze" it like other sizes of rivet nuts or you'll break it. For this reason it is also easy to strip the threads during installation before you can get a good grip on the nut. In my opinion.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • There are flaws

Breaks too easily best in tools and accessories

The steel used to make the threaded portion of the 8-32 mandrel is not strong enough and is therefore prone to Fracture. I broke my first one after putting about 30 nuts in it. I ordered a replacement, thinking I'd be careful not to push too hard, but this one broke on the first pull! Very frustrating. I ended up using a homemade nut and bolt tool to finish my work. Same problem with the 10-24 mandrel, although not as much. Ask me how I know. On the other hand, large sizes like 1/4-20 can take…

  • handy item

  • I have no ill will, everything is fine

Note that while this is listed as a replacement, this may not work.

My Astro Pneumatic tools manual lists this part as a direct replacement for my sheared (broken) 8-32 mandrel. It's not relevant. After purchasing this tool, I found that the male insert used to attach the mandrel to the tool is M8-1.25. The thread on my My Astro Pneumatic tool is M10-1.5. Obviously there have been design changes and it looks like the M8-1.25 is the new 'standard'. I'm SOL for my M10-1.5 threading tool. I can't even machine a lock nut from M10-1.5 to M8-1.25 as it prevents the…
