🎤 Audio-Technica AT4053B Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone: Superior Sound Quality for Professional Recording Review

Very happy with the sound quality and the price, which is reasonable for this level of quality - I think it will accompany me for life; I see no reason to upgrade in the future for the work I do on a low to medium budget

Very good sounding small diaphragm condenser microphone. I use this when making screencasts while drawing on a Wacom tablet. It's small, light, and hypercardioid. I point it at my mouth from about 10 inches away and it cancels out most other noise in the office. I find the sound good enough to intonate despite the size of the capsule. The shock absorbers are extremely cheap for such a small and light device. microphone

I've compared the AT4053B to the Sennheiser MKH 50 and if you don't want the best this mic is a fantastic price. With quality audio equipment I couldn't find any significant differences, and certainly nothing that would tempt me to spend double the MKH 50 for consumer purposes. If you're primarily interested in which one sounds better, the AT4053B will sound just as good as the high-end mics in most applications it's designed for.

I do a lot of interviews and have used a variety of shotgun and supercardioid mics before purchasing this mic. All my West Coast colleagues praise the Schoeps CMC6 as the Cadillac of dialog room microphones. But it will cost you about 3-4 times more. Then you still need an outdoor shotgun!
