The cut line in the mirror is for a different look at the end of the mirror. As if I had to look at the small end with one eye. But it got hot and worked great to replace my old broken mirror. Simply disconnect the wires from the old mirror with pliers and thread them to the new mirror in the same way. There's also a metal tongue that fits into the transom plate, identical to the old one. The old mirror detaches from the base, pull the 2 wires, connect them to the new mirror and it simply snaps
