I wish I could return

I bought this a little over a month ago because of the reviews. I've used it 3 times quite unsuccessfully but wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately I had 5 days past the return deadline so I'm just as unhappy with it. I don't know if the fact that I'm left-handed has anything to do with it, but since the crop area is diagonal, it might. My biggest complaints are that it rips the veggies instead of slicing them and the surface that you can move up and down to get the thickness you want is…

Certain purchase. Best in the Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets Category

If you work in a restaurant, you've probably seen or used a few of these. At first I thought I'd bought my own mandolin, dared to be different and bought one of those pretty metal mandos. Don't be that guy/girl. Just spend money on it. Point. The advantages: Super sharp right out of the box. Used it to cut fennel for my sea bass garnish. The PAPER was thin and smooth. Other Mandos have been doing this for some time. Then yes. The fact that you can take out the blade makes it better than…

Excellent, use with care

This is a serious mandolin. An incredibly useful kitchen tool that I now use every time I need to make a salad or julienne carrots for dog food. I just used it to chop 1.5 pounds of ginger to make candied ginger and pickled ginger. Pickled ginger slices are so thin you can see them. I don't know of any other household appliance that can handle it. But this thing is very sharp, folks. If you look at it wrong, it will cut you. Take care and keep it safe, we little hands can't access it at all. I…

Sweet potato chip heaven!

I spent a lot of time researching mandoline slicers before purchasing this one. Love it! I wanted one specifically for making sweet potato chips in a dehydrator and most of them under $100 sounded like they had trouble making even cuts. My first sweet potato came in all sorts of crescent shapes and thicknesses. I was wondering if I had bought a planer that was mediocre and no better but a little faster than a knife for multiple cuts. Then magic happened during my second potato and I found…

Professional Mandolin

I first saw this item in a commercial kitchen where I was teaching a cooking class. I decided to buy it simply because if it's suitable for an upscale restaurant, it should be suitable for me too. The quality and durability of this item is fantastic. It's very spicy, I mean VERY spicy. When I first used it, I learned it the hard way. You gotta respect this beast. offer for everyone. The platform can be raised and lowered to adjust the thickness of the slice. If you raise the platform all the…

Expensive but now I'm so glad I bought it! The Benriner brand is great!

I make sauerkraut and hand chop 4-5 lbs. Kohl all of a sudden was getting more and more painful for me because I have osteoarthritis that gets annoying in the wrist and fingers of my right hand. Also, most of us can't chop vegetables as finely as a mandolin. I was hesitant to buy the large size which is highly recommended over the normal size for cutting large amounts of cabbage but after about 6 months of trimming and grooving. I adjust it as finely as possible to cut the cabbage. Beautiful…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No mold required

Let me start by saying that I have used many mandolins and although most of them are fine for normal everyday cutting. They all failed me when trying to slice very thin. All other blocks have a default thickness selection. Neither of them were able to cut thin enough for my needs. I saw Benriner at our local kitchenware store and laughed again at the claims on the packaging. Well, what another slicer in the closet. While watching Revain I noticed that there is also a wide body version. Slightly
