🔧 BVHW45 Homeowners Bench Vise by Bessey Review

Vise did not work. There was no pin that would open the jaw along with the washer. I used a cotter pin to hold it in place. Also, the vise didn't rotate. The pivot slots on the cheek base were cracked due to the rough casting. I had to smooth out the grooves with a file to make it spin. I bought a vise thinking it was a good price but found that Lowes had a vise for sale for the same price but much better quality.

Installed this on my workbench yesterday and played with it a bit. Nice to feel and look at. Smooth work. No complaints. The only thing that could be improved is the addition of mounting hardware. Used 1/4" mounting screws and they seem to fit well. But where the screw head enters there is no "edge" - it's stepped so I'm hoping heavy pressure doesn't cause the screw heads to slip off. No very good place to install a washing machine.

So far this vise works. It's a little rough on the edges, no stop so you don't unscrew it too far, and a little rough with the screw. I sprayed some silicone spray on the screw and it runs a little smoother. This is a good vise for small light jobs that the average homeowner can do. You won't turn this thing like a better or stronger vise, but it will hold your stuff. Bessie makes a quality product.
