Waste of money even for a beginner

This kit is not that good. Poor quality renders most of it unusable. Extremely cheap wax, grooving cutter totally useless, a few hits too dull to pierce a single 5 ounce layer of leather. The needles are just fine. The thread is just fine. No awl although it comes with a multifunctional awl. There was no real awl tip. Everything could be bought separately at a comparable price but in much better quality.

Belt trimmed on Thread&Floss

I had to trim 7 belts after weight loss with diet changes. My local shoe and luggage workshop was temporarily closed due to health issues so I watched the video and bought this set. The set is excellent, the threads are very strong and waxed. Working with leather is hard work and requires proper marking. I saved some money and learned some basic skills, but now I admire the "real" leather master even more! It is an art and requires great skill.

Mostly good but with one complaint

Items are mostly good but it would be nice if the box had at least one page with pictures detailing what each item is and what it is for beginners. For example, it took me some time to realize that the fork-like thing was a skinning tool and was meant to be attached to a blade. Which brings me to a big problem, it cannot be attached to the blade. I can't get the blade to sit in the skiver tool and no amount of youtube or googling helps me to solve this problem. I only took three because the…

With the Basic Tools Set one would expect to find instructions showing how to use the tools included. This set shows all the basic tools but I don't know how to use them and I have been sewing clothes and using leatherworking tools for decades. Leather embossing tools are easy to use even if you've never used them before, but they're low quality compared to the ones we've had in my family for over 40 years (Tandy Leather). There are hundreds of videos on YouTube showing what stamps are used…

such poor quality that I think I should warn others before they do.

I almost never write product reviews. However, it is of such poor quality that I feel I need to warn others before they are fooled. I got this as a Christmas present from my wife in 2016. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the items before the return deadline. When I tried the first brand this morning, I was very surprised. I was working on the curb and on the 7th hit (with the polyhammer) I realized something was wrong. I looked at the stamp and it was bent. Since I had no choice but to finish

This is a normal starter kit but not exceptional quality.

I have been a full time leather trader for over 25 years. I bought a couple of these to use in my first beginner class because they are inexpensive and seem to contain most of the basic tools. After reviewing the content and using it in class, I feel I can give a fair review. In short: the quality sucks and it's missing some of the things you need to get started properly. *Possibly* a good option for a beginner who wants to try their hand at leatherworking but doesn't want to invest a lot to…
