Great while it lasted.

I think I found the perfect solution for keeping the hermit crab's habitat between 75 and 80 degrees while our house was around 72 degrees. Radiant heat (from above) with no additional light was exactly what I was looking for. Running 24/7 for about a month. 30 days x 24 hours per day = approximately 700 hours, or approximately half the expected 1500 hour lifespan. Would have given five stars if it had taken two months. I will send it back and look for a more durable solution.

Pros
  • The best
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

A little small but HOT.

Face is smaller than I expected but heats up to about 650 degrees per 100 watts. Yes, ceramic heaters get that hot. I decided to check after it turned out that the potholder I put it on was starting to turn brown. For the money this is great value. Considering I paid $40 for one at the pet store. The face was about 4 inches in diameter compared to those at only 3+. I've only been using it for about 3 days so I can't comment on durability. But they usually last a long time.

  • Enjoyable

Adequate heat without light

I have 60 watts to keep my chickens warm. They don't give off much heat, enough to keep them warm in a small enclosed space (without harming them if they come into contact with it) until it gets too cold. If you expect cool temperatures or draughts, higher performance may be required. Fits in a standard lamp socket, no temperature control (Amazon wanted this in the review) other than raising or lowering the light fixture. The heat with no light that she kept up all the time suited me fine

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Disappear

Big Fire Hazard!: Reptiles and Amphibians

Two nights ago this lightbulb almost burned the house down. I connected it to a reptile lamp. Luckily he woke up when he fell and the pillow caught fire. It would be terribly wrong if I didn't know in time. They consume little energy and are useful, but the seller does not explain their danger. I wrote about this in an outdoor group and a bunch of people joined the conversation about familiar friends and new settlers burning down their barns, chicken coops and houses. Buyer warning!

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Crumpled

Perfect for my ball python!

None of the pet stores near me had radiant heaters so I ordered these for my small ball python tank. They are very cheap, there are two in the pack and they heat the tank to the right temperature. However, they don't get as hot as store bought ones, but are perfect for a small aquarium with my python. A 100w lamp will heat your 20g aquarium to about 90 degrees. So if you are looking for a heater for an animal that likes it hot like a bearded dragon, this lamp may not be the right one for yourโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Good Heat for Snakes

Purchased for use in a snake case. Glass containers in particular. They do an excellent job of keeping the temperature at the right level. The ball python housing has the hot side set at 90. I use them with a dimmer. With a dimmer I can get the hot side down to 90 whatever I want. When I max them out, the temperature in the tank reaches 96 degrees Fahrenheit. You definitely need a thermostat or you might end up cooking whatever's in the tank. For a long time. The time will show. If anythingโ€ฆ

Ideal for reptile enclosures!

I have a 2 month old baby bearded dragon and even with his 100 watt heat bulb 10 inches away I couldn't get the temperature right (the temperature stuck at 80-85 degrees at his heating point) that is a great addition and now he has the perfect temperature curve in his terrarium! I bought a 150 watt ceramic heat lamp and keep it 24 inches from the bottom of his terrarium, just above where he heats up. its warm side is now 100-105 degrees and the cool side is 80-85 degrees. definitely recommended
