Strong, beautiful, reliable.

High volume, printer-averse user used to paying for staples rather than touching my office printer. Finally in love: the printer of my dreams. Strong, beautiful, reliable. We have disputes about wireless usage, but they're always resolved quickly. Four months later I'm still dizzy.

Pros
  • Brilliantly done
Cons
  • Factor set

Very bad image quality when scanning

I had a Brother 8680 DN 5-6 years old. I have this new brother 5900 to replace an aging 8680 printer. The problem with this new 5900 is that the scan quality is very poor compared to the 8680 for the text. If you scan plain white paper, you will get a gray background image file. I can scan photos with the 8680 scanner; but 5900 is unreliable even for a text document.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Little repairability

"Replace Toner " at Office Electronics

I liked the printer until it decided to tell me I NEED to replace the toner. Some Brother printers I've had before had simple overrides, but Brother seems to have worked a little harder on this and I can't figure out how to print receipts in my office, although the printer was printing fine until it closed. If you're legally blind and can't tell when your copies look like junk, then this printer is for you. Brother will tell you (prematurely) that you need to replace them with overpriced…

Stains on sides after inactivity

I've bought several models that came before this one - one broke for good - needed a new laser unit (lifetime around 3 years). I chose this generation based on previous experience. I have had two MFC 5900s and have noticed that after the machine has been idle for a few days, black spots/bugs appear on the first few pages. The brother says he should clean the drum, not knowing why this has to happen with a new printer. Working quality paper. no labels etc. I don't really have time to service the

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Unreliable

Wonderful! I do not recommend any other brand! Transformed!

I had extremely expensive color laser printers from HP and Lexmark. All of them were unreasonably expensive to maintain and all had their own characteristics. I've had this printer for over a year now and I'm VERY impressed. No quirks, very economical toner and you get the odd feeling that every part of this MFP is well thought out. I never use the touchscreen to be honest, but it works great. I manage most of the controls from a computer. The scanner offers excellent scan quality. All document

Pros
  • few competitors
Cons
  • some difficulties

Poor print quality, best for laser printers

I have bought 2 MFCL5900DW, one for me and one for my daughter out of state. Right from the start the first printed page was "dirty", especially at the top. I called my brother 5 or 6 times. The toner cartridge was changed 3 times, the drum 1 time. I did a lot of exercises like cleaning the drum with an alcohol wipe and wiping the toner roller. They only solved the problem temporarily. I still have dirty first and second pages. My 30-day Revain return policy has expired, as has my 90-day…

Pros
  • Many will fit
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

Always offline, rarely works on Mac

Ever since I've had this printer, it's been an absolute headache. To ever be able to use it, I have to turn it on and off multiple times and turn the computer on and off. And only then is it likely that the printer will connect to my computer. It will almost never be AirPrint, especially if you don't hover over it. It doesn't even show up online. 99% of the time it shows offline in the printer settings even though it is connected to the internet and showing a strong internal signal. There…

Had to return it, good for office electronics

I bought this printer along with 4 packs of toner and 2 packs of drums from other sellers on Revain so I had them all in stock. and ready when needed. I unpacked this printer and installed it on our network print server. Added it to the list of printers on my laptop. test print. Big! Checked copy. Big! Scan to email tested. Big! Wait, it has been turned off for the next 5 minutes. Tried scanning again, nothing. Tried to print, nothing. I was able to ping it and access the IP address through a…

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • poorly thought out

I bought this printer to replace a Brother MFC8910DW which was very good when it worked but was prone to errors including drum breakage and drum error message. I received the MFCL5900DW to give Brother another chance. Speed: Initial boot time to first print appears to be around 2 seconds slower on the MFCL5900DW compared to the older MFC8910DW. Once the printing starts, the speed of the MFCL5900DW is very fast. Installation: I installed the MFCL5900DW in my office with 8 computers. Installation
