Indeed you need it if you have a Brother machine that requires you to unscrew the plates to remove the lint. Universal.

This is one of the best addons Brother has to offer. I wish it had a string to hang it up because I keep losing it in my desk drawer. Now I've added a string to hang it up. Love it and yes you buy one.

I love this sewing machine screwdriver! I've used several standard tools and was still disappointed. Now I only use this screwdriver to change needles or to get under the plate where the spool is to remove the lint. It also works great when it comes to changing the sewing machine foot. There is simply nothing better. Good job brother!

I have a brother PE770 and it does not tighten the U-bolt. The ONLY reason I bought it. It's nice and small, but too wide to turn a screw. It hangs and does NOTHING. Again, use the screwdriver that came with the machine. Big disappointment. And now even as the main contributor since it was a 3rd party I have to pay the shipping cost to send it back. You should list the brothers machines he works with or does NOT work with! You should be ashamed of yourself! Would give zero stars if I could.
