Excellent product in Computers & Accessories

I use this device for my iMAC for TimeMachine backups. TimeMachine runs all day and the device is always available and works great. The device comes with backup software but it only works for Windows and nothing is available for Apple. I have the backup software installed on my Windows laptop but haven't used it yet as I just copy my data from my Windows machine to my iMAC and let Apple TimeMachine do all the backups from the iMAC.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Not the best

I recently bought an 8TB NAS model LS220D0802B from Revain. I just took it out of the box and inspected the parts and the product. I was annoyed about using Western Digital Blue hard drives as all NAS devices must come with WD Red hard drives. Since you no longer sell the diskless version and prefer this NAS over other brands in this price range due to the overall quality of the product, I was surprised that you all chose the Blue disk. The WD Red hard drive is the hard drive of choice for any…

  • There's something to it

Good reliable NAS

I've had these units for a little over a month and if you're looking for a reasonably priced NAS this is what you need. I bought the 8TB version with 4TB to use in a Raid1 array. I had some issues initially and did a factory reset and rebuild the array to fix things. The device works fine and I have good bandwidth on my laptop (wireless). It would be a bit better if a wireless connection was available for this, but that's not a deal breaker for me. The cable connection is fine and offers good…

No NFS support and CPU underutilized

I had problems with this device because when I only had 2 Linux VMs writing to it with Samba the LS200 CPU was busy and the kernel the Linux -VM could see an insane amount of CPU wait %, 40-60% remain. This NAS fully supports NFS, a much more advanced protocol than SMB, except for the fact that the kernel it comes with is not configured to communicate over NFS. Compared to other devices on the market, this thing is slimmed down, so buy the TeraStation line of products if you want to take…

Simple expectations were not met.

I bought a Buffalo LinkStation SoHo 2-Bay Desktop 8TB for two purposes. Firstly as a vault for rarely used documents and photos and secondly as a backup solution for Time Machine backups. This is achieved by setting user/group quotas on individually created shared folders. Not the best solution, but okay. Once the quota is reached, any process attempting to continue effectively fails. Is the user notified of a threshold violation? Despite what the user manual says, the LinkStation does not…
