I bought this belt five years ago because it was cheap and was all leather, not glued or sewn around a cardboard core. This belt has served me for five years. It was a great belt. Outstanding Belt. It's thick and solid. Non-laminated and glued tape that you usually find cheaper. This is my second and they just keep going. They will stretch so get your exact size. UPDATE: 6 months later. The second one I ordered is obviously genuine leather with a thin top layer. It has really stretched, and small pieces of cut and shaped leather are now clearly visible on the inside of the belt - contrary to what I have stated above. I guess you can't tell until you use it. I have had several scratch free Carhartt belts and they have always found them to be high quality, comfortable and durable. To my disappointment, although the latest version of this strap has survived a few years of regular wear without issue, this latest strap fell apart less than a week after purchase. The belt looks aesthetically pleasing when first purchased but after a few weeks of wearing it is showing real quality issues, falling apart after just a few months of use. My buddy said the quality of Carhartt has gone downhill lately, I dismissed that as maybe just a bad product but this belt along with a few other items I bought from the fleet made me see the decay, which he achieved in excellent company. It's sad because I used to swear at Carhartt, but I can't anymore.
