Good but very wide ends.

Where to start works but not what I need it for at the bottom of the stairs. The gate has "wide" edges on both ends that prevent it from working in the spot I bought it for. I will continue to use it in doorways and similar places but will buy (thin) original wooden gates that I know will work in this area. Again, gates work in other areas, but be aware that these gates have very wide ends, making them a problem for certain areas.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Will not work in homes with high baseboards

In theory it looked like a well designed gate. It expands by dialing in the handle - something a smart dog can't manipulate, as I've seen with top latches. It's easy to set up. But if you have a high baseboard like mine, it won't attach securely to the walls. He can only fix the bottom half of the gate to the baseboards while the top half is not fixed to the wall and can be moved easily. Back immediately.

Great quality, perfect size.

Arrived very promptly, only a few days and in perfect condition. Very easy to use. I bought this to use when training our new puppy. Because it is made of plastic, it is ideal for indoor and outdoor use. I wouldn't leave him outside all the time, but we can close the porch upstairs so the pup can't escape. He has it well under control at the moment and so far he hasn't been able to get it to move. This saved us from buying a puppy pen as we have the perfect corner for him to squeeze into so…

and many owners like to meet before booking confirmation.

I work with a dog for extra income and many owners are happy to arrange pre-booking appointments (I work through Rover.com). I only really use the gate if I have a dog currently living with me and a future reservation wanting to come by to meet me :) Rather than risk the dogs disliking each other or a dog behind the closed one bedroom door gets nervous I'll just go put a gate at the entrance to the corridor so everyone can see/hear/smell everyone else. Pretty easy to install/remove and when…

Weak and doesn't stay in place

Probably the worst goal ever. It's not inherently solid, which wouldn't be so bad if it stayed in place. I had to mount one of the bumpers on the side myself. Then the door is not really suitable for installation under pressure. I've tried finding easy to use gates that actually use pressure to stay in place like the ones I've owned for years to no avail. These gates are definitely not easy to use, they don't latch or stay in the door frame. I would not recommend this and I want to save myself…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No performance

It was very strong but the locking piece wouldn't open so my husband had to take it off. Not easy to step over when you are 5'3" tall, we are seniors and it was very frustrating trying to unlock the locking element. I have a companion puppy that helps me. I love him and he is smart , but he isn't housebroken yet so we keep him in one of the ensuite bedrooms and put puppy pads in there which he uses until we let him out of the room then he wets every rug we have I can walk over it no problem…

The locking mechanism is smart

You're smarter than this gate, you can handle it. Here are the mantras to say to yourself as you try to wedge this thing in a doorway. I was so proud of myself when I snapped it on and it's holding up pretty well. It slides in and out easily once you figure out how to snap it into place. Here's the rub - my pup jumped over it in 2 seconds (Will I ever go to the bathroom by myself again?!). If you have a particularly nervous, smart getaway dog, this isn't really a hindrance. This keeps her in…

Incredible value for money

I've used the Evenflo lock with position and door locking many times over the years, mostly with success, but I've always had a hard time finding the right notch to hook it in, to be able to clamp the gate in the doorway. My current Evenflo gate just cracked and broke trying to quickly install it in the door in a hurry. This Carlson gate has a stem with a series of holes at the top of the stem that allow you to select the closest hole that fits the width of the door and insert the pin into the…
