My horse has worn them out about an hour a day in 6 weeks of riding. Cutting wasn't as easy as described and required a lot of adjustments. Maybe they wrote off. I don't know because the horse couldn't tell me. I am not sure if I will replace it.

The trim guide lines weren't accurate which isn't the biggest downside but a little disappointing. I wouldn't call them "gel" either, they are very hard. Just a little more cushioning than the base of the boot I added it to (cavallo ELB). As a result, they appear to provide my horse with additional comfort, although this is an anecdotal observation.
