It's a gamble whether you need gear, whether you can get it or not.

No fittings included, no, I have to send it back instead of just getting gaskets and screws. Not happy, and since I couldn't adjust it properly, I'll say it's not good for me.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Some little things

Defect in packaging

Don't like the defect in packaging? Easy install, high torque to save space, this is the #2 failed starter motor in 2 years, the first one I've just met the deadlines, this one I returned cost more, plus the was Return not FREE " BUT LOST TIME AND GAIN I later purchased Starter Upgrade #5.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Ok

I wish I had done this sooner!

I had a 1988 Suburban 454 2500 series with two batteries. I had to replace the starter that came with the purchase and only had trouble starting when it got hot, even with new batteries and cables. Turn that baby up Light it up every time. You could spin it 10 times in a row if it was hot, no problem!

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • I don't have much to complain about, everything is fine

Works great for beginners

I have a 1972 454 block with a 9.5:1 compression ratio. The original GM starter was big, heavy and sluggish. As a result, he broke 2 Bendix gears. Decided to switch to a new style. Great strides in getting to market. I have no recoil and the engine starts much easier. They are much easier to install as they weigh half as much and are smaller for easier placement around headers. I hope this stays that way as it is a significant and easy improvement.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Almost never
