To be honest, I don't have much experience with portable DVD players, so I don't know what the hundreds of dollar offerings are. it's not like this. But I was very impressed and LOVE this DVD player since we got it. It may be cheaper because it doesn't come with many of the accessories that other DVD players come with, but what it has (headphones, charger, remote control) was all we needed, at least at the time of purchase.
