Don't order it until we know why it (both) doesn't put out any voltage.

The first one couldn't get it to work. I sent it back and got a loan. I ordered exactly the same again. I followed the order and first connected the battery terminals as directed. I couldn't get voltage from any of the blocks by checking the multimeter. and connection of 4 LED lights. I am experienced but not an expert in this field. I also have two other solar panels, one 20 watt and one 10 watt, with controllers that have been working great for a number of years.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Nothing here

Can't do 5 amps

The output side of the controller went through a 5 amp fuse which in turn went to the motor driver. The engine stalled and tried to draw more than 5 amps, but before the fuse blew, the block was dead. Upon autopsy, I found a burn mark on the PC trace (circled in the photo). The trail has been opened. If the PC trace was more reliable it would probably still work and my fuse blew. Interestingly, the power FETs on the HY1804 board are rated at 54 amps at 100°C case temperature and are more than…

Potential Fire Hazard

I may have misunderstood the description below, but first I connected a 6V sealed lead acid battery as instructed. Then I connected the load, which worked fine. Then I connected the solar panel 12V 1.5W. After a few minutes, the controller started smoking and the wires leading to the battery literally melted. I'm glad this was placed outside and away from home, would he have left it longer or would it have gone up in smoke. Battery voltage: 6V / 12V car; Rated charge and discharge current: 5A…

Great solar charge controller

Just ordered my third of these solar charge controllers. I originally bought two because of the small size and both are working great after two months of use. I have no idea if they are actually waterproof as they come in a little project box that protects them. Remember to connect them to the battery first before connecting them to the solar panel. The first two photos show a solar charger feeding a 12v power regulator (buck converter) to ensure my security camera is constantly on 12v and not…

No frills but works.

After using this device for several days I have seen nothing but a green charging light other than a steady glow with no blinking. The red light indicating that the load is on is always on when the corresponding battery is connected. This allows my 25w solar panel to charge the battery. It also powers the load circuit from the battery or panel, whichever has the most power at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if this device is a simple circuit of resistors and diodes in a small plastic box, so…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Protection

I bought this charge controller for its small size, water resistance along with standard features like the ability to overcharge, discharge and prevent reverse discharge on the solar panel in the Night. Unfortunately the charge controller I was given didn't prevent my battery from over discharging and my 12 volt battery from dropping below 5 volts. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this controller as its standard features do not seem reliable. Maybe I got an inferior one, let's see if…

  • Easy to read control panel

They work great for a short time.

I bought 4 of these earlier this year to use with the solar panel on my trail cameras. My cameras are 6V input devices and my panel can produce up to 24V in bright sunlight. Each of these devices have worked flawlessly and I recently purchased another for my fifth camera. I will say that when your original SLA battery drops below 5.67V they turn off the output load to that controller. I had a 6V battery with an output voltage of 5.67V. I didn't check the voltage before trying to use it and the…

Excellent vendor response to issue and quick resolution

Vendor support gets 5 stars, 3 stars overall as the controller was DOA. The first. Very important. I did this and the red "Load" light came on. I connected the controller to the solar panel cable and the green charging light came on. Big. The battery should gain strength over the next few days. When I came back a few hours later I found that the battery voltage had dropped sharply from 12.25v to 12.10v. In bright sunshine. Checked the battery cable at the splice and found about 2 volts, not the

Works as expected - energy regulator

I had a solar service box in a car with an AGM battery and as the voltage at the output of the service box can be 20+ volts I figured this was one AGM battery can be damaged by high charging voltage (in a normal lead acid battery this is not so important as you can always top up with distilled water if the battery is overcharged and the electrolyte boils off). In hindsight I should have bought one of the solar panel servicers that included a controller, but adding that controller to the circuit
