🔴 Craftsman 9-17816 Vacuum Cartridge Filter 8.5 Inches - Red/White - General Purpose Review

Photo of box says it fits handyman #113179150. That's not true. This unit cannot be attached to the engine mounting bolt and will fall into the trash can. The original filter had a flat top and a wing nut that attached it to the motor housing. This assembly has a raised male stud and a pressure cap that does not attach to the motor housing stud. [See photos]. Since I changed the filter 4 or 5 years ago, I didn't notice any difference in design in the product photo. Guilty.

I was expecting a same brand filter for $16 and with the exact model of my vacuum cleaner printed on the box it would just about fit . Apparently the new method of attaching this filter is supposed to be a swivel nut, but the filter is too long to work on the threaded rod in my vacuum. After playing with it for a few minutes, removing the filter each time, I gave up. I got out my Dremel tool and used a cutting wheel to cut off the bulge in the center of the filter to expose enough threads and…

2015: Ordered this 17816 filter for my old red Sears Craftsman model 113.xxx 9 gallon shop vacuum. It comes in an official Craftsman box, good quality and fit. I find that the red line around it usually indicates a good filter regardless of manufacturer. Dimensions: 6.75" OD x 7.75" H with 4.25" ID hole. Mine goes through a tall plastic cage with a plastic rod in the center with a threaded end. The black plastic cap that came with this filter is double threaded for vacuums with wide center rods
