Breathed new life into an old iMac

Great value, Revain's list price was a few dollars cheaper than Crucial's website and Prime made me order it from Revain. I have an older mid 2010 21.5 inch iMac with a 3.2 GHz i3. From day one it had the original 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory. After years of slow slowdowns and OS X 10.13.6 being cut off from updates, it's time for an update, now with Crucial's 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 and Samsung's original 4GB (yes, that old Mac's memory is Samsung). It's almost like new. If only I could upgrade to a

This storage shows up as active but when I loaded a backup with lots of data it just hung! I'm not entirely sure if it's the extra memory, but that was the only difference since I'd added the data earlier, and while it was slow (the Mac only had 4GB of memory at the time), it wasn't stalling . The first time I added storage with this data on the Mac, it didn't work at all, just turning off on every reboot. I've tried changing it and even going back to the original save but to no avail. At this…

Make. That. Now: Computer Components

Going from a meager 4GB of factory RAM to 32GB of storage with two of these Crucial 2X8GB memory kits has been incredibly helpful for my 27" iMac Mid 2011 that I use every year Day for many hours and rely on it for both work and play. I updated it a few weeks ago and have never looked back. Now I have no more spinners or spinning beach balls. No more cherry colored moving blocks in the "Memory" section of Activity Monitor - just a thin green line at the bottom of the window. No more video…

Laptop runs like new

I started taking computer classes at a local college and suddenly had to download huge programs and run them all at once on my 2011 Macbook. Yes my laptop is an early 2011 model which is almost 9 years old at the moment. Needless to say, it worked SLOWLY. Even before these new programs were downloaded and running, my laptop was crawling forward. I was disappointed and seriously considered buying a new Macbook for over $2000. But my professor suggested just swapping out the RAM in my old…

In search of the best performance. Interesting installation issue

iMac 21.5 inch Mid 2010 3.2GHz Intel Core i3OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 Wanted to upgrade the 4GB RAM provided by Apple. In search of the best performance. Interesting installation problem. First try: The original two 2GB DIMMs were in BANK 0/DIMM1 and BANK 1/DIMM1. Added new Crucial 4GB DIMMs to open slots for BANK 0/DIMM0 and BANK 1/DIMM0. The iMac made a warning beep when it started up. Annoying noise. I had to turn off the device by holding down the power button. Attempt Two: Swapped one in each…

Works great on a Mid 2011 iMac!

I am delighted. I have 10 apps working fine and 13 Chrome tabs open as I write this review. I can't believe how much faster my iMac has gotten when running multiple apps. I've been using 4GB RAM since 2011 and had no idea how easy an upgrade would be. I was ready to throw away that desktop and buy a new one. Before installing the additional 8GB RAM (4+4) the computer would freeze if I dared to open more than 3 apps. The work was excruciatingly slow. I'm tempted to replace 4GB (2+2) with another

Upgraded my iMac 27-inc mid 2011 from 4GB to 20GB total RAM.

I added this pair of memory modules to my mid-2011 iMac 27-inc to increase my total RAM from 4GB to 20GB. Although Apple's documentation states that 16 is the maximum, I looked at the capacity of this model and found that you can expand it up to 32GB. For those who don't have a clue (like me), the installation was very simple: 1 - Turn off your iMac. Touch the exterior of iMac to discharge it (static electricity) and unplug it from the power outlet. Place the iMac "face down" in the towel.2…

Amazing results! I don't watch all my symbols bounce around.

I have a Late 2011 Macbook Pro 13 with Yosemite. Before purchasing this RAM, I checked my activity monitor and found that I'm using 3.8-3.9 of my 4GB of RAM all the time. Hard to lag behind. I received the package 2 days later and installed 8GB in about 10 minutes. Amazing results! I don't watch all my icons jumping around waiting for them to open. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND upgrading to 8GB. It's just day and night.
