High outboard security

Excellent, affordable outboard anti-theft device (slows a thief, doesn't stop) mounted above the transom. A third of the McGuard award is spent for this purpose.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Empty

Cheap trailer accessories

Poor design, thought it would be better. The lock uses crappy keys that break easily (words from experience) and is NOT waterproof. Read the fine print carefully, the key slot rubber cover is just a dust cover. Even when closed, it dangles freely.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are nuances

very good for the money

Only problem is my wife couldn't put the lock back on the pin. You have to press the lock onto the pin, then hold the lock and then turn the key. Not obvious. But once you know, it works great. Suitable for our trailers. Works well.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Cheap key: trailer accessory

One of the keys bent and broke in half when tried. Now I need to make a second key so I don't just have one. Edit: Updated rating to 5 stars. I contacted CURT and after reporting the problem, a support rep sent me a replacement product free of charge.

Pros
  • nice part
Cons
  • dubious purchase for the elderly

Unlocked while driving

I had this product on my trailer for a day. After a while it came loose and fell off. I only have one strip left. Maybe I got a bad one, I don't know. I ordered a second one and the key didn't work. I will never order these again. Buy another brand. You get what you pay for I guess.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Without automatic control

decent item fits outdoor accessories

I ordered this item as a replacement lock for my Bulldog trailer lock when my trailer is attached to my truck. It does what it's supposed to do but needs lubricating as it's difficult to open in bad weather. I read in other reviews that I had to shorten it. This was due to the problem I described above. If I hadn't read this review I probably would have cut mine off, but a bit of lube and a firm squeeze opened them up.

Pros
  • easy installation
Cons
  • only available in white

Very happy with it: Hitch Parts

Need a replacement to keep my room trunk in place after losing the grub screw that came with the trunk and it fit the bill. It's thin enough to fit through a 5/8 hitch bolt hole as well as the internal load screw, but strong enough to hold the trunk and entire load in the hitch. Very happy with it. Reliable handy lock and good big keys that make unlocking easy.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Fits

Lock broke after 45 days

My last hitch lock has been in service since 2008. The only reason I bought a new one was because the key was broken and I couldn't easily find a replacement. So I ordered this, installed it and locked it. . Came out today to unlock - won't budge. He was only on the road for 45 days. It took me about 10 minutes to get out and it was tough. I used wd40, the locking pin broke inside. So my return window has ended and now I'm going to Tractor Supply to buy one. UGG.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Protection

Made of lightweight material but works as intended.

The device is used to fix the locking mechanism of the trailer hitch. It is not designed to attach the towbar to the vehicle and works perfectly. It's a bit fiddly when it comes to locking and unlocking as the key mechanism turns with the key, requiring you to hold it with one hand and use the key with the other. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's made from a relatively light metal, so I'm guessing it doesn't charge to failure. Accordingly, I suspect it won't be long…

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Repair
