DIR-655 with Hardware Rev B - RUN

Owned DIR-655 with A4 equipment for almost 3 years. Last week it started freezing and restarting sometimes with the power light blinking. If I had to rate my old router I would give it 5 stars for being an amazing workhorse. Now for the present. Last week I bought a new DIR-655 with B1 equipment. Updated firmware from 2.10 to 2.11, made a few changes to the config. I took the router out of the box for about 10 minutes. The power indicator starts flashing orange and turns orange after a few…

You were like a thoroughbred among many racehorses

I bought this router in February 2009. I died today. Farewell, old friend. You have served me and my family well. You were once like a thoroughbred among many racehorses. Time has taken its toll on you, but you have continued to work without complaining. Forgive me for taking you for granted all these years. I didn't realize how much our family depends on you until you breathed your last this morning. My wife was angry when she called me at work. Little did she know that our little white…

Good if used in the same room

I bought it in 2014. It was a huge step up from the last one I had considering I doubled the size of my home (quad 2700 sq ft level from tri level 1200 sq. ft.). Within 2 weeks I had to buy an extension cord to try and get through this router. Most of the time the signal was only 3 bars. Had to reset weekly. That finally gave me enough trouble to buy Netgear. I hope to get more information about this. I wouldn't recommend this router unless you work in the same room it's in. My house is made of

Not exactly my best friend.

I think this router must be of insufficient quality. Some people seem to love it while others have had serious problems. When it works as it should, the feature set is pretty good. I've had DNS issues since day one. I only have average networking skills so it took me a long time to narrow down the issues (and I could still be very wrong about that), but the symptom was that random websites were intermittently inaccessible to me. Big websites like Facebook, Google etc. When this happened all…

Expect slow speeds

While it offers the most speed, it severely limits the gigabit internet you could get without it. The WiFi works great for what it is and the range is decent enough, but I'm really disappointed with the speeds coming from the ethernet cables. Less than 20% of the speed I got when the same cable was plugged directly into the jack. Considering I only have two devices connected to the router, my laptop and my PS4, and somehow the PS4 is getting faster speeds, almost half the original speeds I…

Stable and promising WiFi, Update: requires proper setup

I decided to buy a new one, so many options on the market I tried the dual-band Belkin N750, the one for video streaming and range too is not good enough. The next try was Dlink N300+ (internal antenna), Dlink is a good guide when connecting to a computer. but the range is still not my favorite. My colleague recommended the DIR-655 and I bought it, it was mounted vertically to improve heat dissipation and increase range. IPv6 disabled on my computer for internet speed. If you want to try it, go

  • Ugly packaging

I have been using routers and switches for 25 years. D-Link has always had good prices, easy-to-use interfaces, extremely reliable hardware, and good online support (I've been on their Compuserve forum since before the internet. Yes, I'm a network OG!). A good Wi-Fi web browsing solution for home users, this N300 also features a wired gigabit backbone to meet the high wired data transmission demands for Netflix HD and console gaming on multiple devices simultaneously. Sure, you can spend $200…

I am happy with my DIR-655

I buy D-Link routers, switches and now this wireless router because the setup is well organized and easy to understand. It's always important to set up any router (especially wireless routers) with the best possible security, and I think installing D-Link is very easy. Never fully trusting wireless network security, I had a bug in my security setup where only the wireless half or the LAN side could use the internet connection at the same time, but not both at the same time. Since this is my…

  • Long range
Cons
  • Something is wrong

Bought a few years ago. It runs flawlessly. The only negative I would say is that the lights are too, too bright. But all of this was taken care of by a little electrical tape (black) attached to the front gauge. Hey, do you really need to SEE connections pulse? No! My connections are dropping right now and I feel like it's time for an update. When I bought this I only had 1, maybe 2 wireless connections. Now I have 10 or so. I think the stress of all the new arrivals is putting too much…
