Although the hammer works well, it is sloppy. The hammer forge lines look unfinished. One side of the hammer has a uniform design, and the top of the forging has jagged and sharp edges. I took the item to the Dremel and Buffer as soon as I received it.
Loved the hammer until the head broke off 3 months after purchase. It appears to be a design flaw that has not been fixed as others have had the same issue. Also, I emailed customer service regarding the warranty and they referred me to Revain. No response from Revane. So here's the shit show trying to get a replacement. Let's see if they endorse their product.
Grip pad fit was rather poor. Sticks out on one side. I had to cut the plastic to fit. The face is well made and serves its purpose. If you compare the price of this hammer to other skeleton hammers, you will see that you get what you paid for. Not terrible, but not great either. It was worth the price.
Balanced, feels light. Long handle for lots of driving power. This hammer also has a roughened version, but sometimes I don't want dial markers to be visible, so I brought a smooth face for those occasions. The only downside I've found is that you can't pull the nail from the side (a carpenter's trick) as that would bend the handle. Excellent parallel strength but low lateral strength. The big hammer only needs to know this one limitation.
I was skeptical about buying a Dead On Hammer. How can you improve a tool that's always been there? Well he's dead. It has a big sweet spot and reduces fatigue by reducing vibration. I bought my wife a hammer - she's a real cowherd - and we fiddled with our fences. Well, anyone who spends hours hammering heavy staples and nails into fence posts gets tired. The Dead On Hammer makes the job easier. I want to buy me now.
That's a hammer! I also have Dead On's Annihilator, so I know they make good instruments. It is a hammer of a more traditional shape, made entirely of steel. The handle is non-slip and absorbs some of the impact when hitting hard objects. It drives a nail like nothing else and is well balanced. The only problem is the grip just below the head. It's a fairly thin piece of steel that you could probably bend so it doesn't have to be pushed from the side. Otherwise the boy will hammer in a nail!
I wrote a review on this hammer a few years ago but for some reason it is no longer here. I originally bought this hammer in 2013. My review explains how one day the face of the hammer broke when I drove a 16P galvanized nail into a really strong PT rendering the hammer completely useless as a hammer. It was quite a dangerous situation because the clubface was thrown off on the backswing after almost flying off on contact with a nail. I liked the hammer up to this point, but the bottleneckβ¦
