🚴 Deda Mistral Tape Leather: Premium Quality Handlebar Tape for a Superior Cycling Experience Review

I ordered this to try and fit a Brooks saddle on my touring bike. It was pretty close, maybe a little darker. Put it to one side and I had trouble pulling it, but it's fine. I didn't like the look of the logo and how it looked with the black brake caps so I removed it and went back to black. I think they ruined the look with all those silver logos that can't be hidden.

I've tried cork tape from SRAM and didn't really like it in terms of look and feel. I bought these ribbons in both red and brown and decided to stick with the latter because the red was too orange. However, the brown color is fantastic and goes very well with the theme of my bike. Not only that, I prefer the relatively firm feel of these tapes (as opposed to geltapes for example) and they are not slippery at all (done 80 miles in foggy weather). This bar tape looks great but I wish the pieces were longer. I was very happy when I started wrapping the poles because they were thick and well filled. Then I realized it didn't stretch all the way, so I had to roll it up and stretch it, making it thinner and less soft. It's still nice, just not as soft as I'd like. On the other hand it gives my bike a classic look, fits my Brooks Honey saddle almost perfectly and I was able to hide almost all logos.

I bought this for my triathlon training bike (an old Raleigh street bike). Looks okay except for the gaudy logos and works great. I've ridden my bike about 200km so far and I'm happy with it. However, I used regular tape to attach it, not the black plastic adhesive strips with a silver logo that it comes with. I think duct tape looks much better! If you are looking for a relatively cheap and comfortable handlebar tape, you won't go wrong with this one. And it was pretty easy to put on.

I need a brown leather or faux leather strap to match the Brooks saddle on a new build. Didn't want to spend money on real leather. This band went well with a medium sized brown Brooks saddle at a very good price. Now put on 2 bikes, looks great. Feels good. There's not a lot of padding, but it doesn't claim the comfort of a gel grip. For proper spacing, place the edge of the tape between the 2nd and 3rd rows of perforations, leaving 3 rows visible. You can overlap the drops a bit (leaving 2 holes visible) but you need to stretch them and place them further up. I do this in drops for extra padding, but even wrapping requires 3 holes. If you drive a lot or often I wouldn't recommend this. I tore the first roll in half while packing. I decided it was my fault, I'm used to a very elastic band. Ordered again and was more attentive. It went 230 miles before I ripped it off and threw it away. Security tape is worse than useless as it sticks to the bars and not the tape. The band is quite slippery when sweaty/wet. Because you can't pull it very tight and the protective tape is not good, the packaging may shift with a lot of force.

This strap is really good visually - and in that regard too lacks the shiny silver "Deda" lettering which requires very careful and painstaking work. meticulous packing work to hide. It looks like a cheap flimsy copy of Fizik tape and really lives up to that first impression. Update, this material wears out very badly, the thin synthetic leather layer breaks and starts to form small cracks all over the upper. Instead of behaving like a brown cork and showing more of the brown cork, when it breaks it shows a black color that contrasts starkly with the brown. This also happened at the ends where you connect them very quickly. I would steer clear of this, I should have just gone with the streams, not three different types of bands that don't match or don't last long. I
