I bought these to make some European style doors but my wood is too thin, more like an art project than practical. They are heavy, durable and good looking but too much for my personal project. They would be good for the right kitchen. They were also very easy to return. If I need to do my kitchen, I'll buy them again.

They are very suitable for overlays. I used them as recesses and had to add a bit of stopper at each bottom corner to keep the door from buckling inward. Another seller has installation diagrams. The easiest way is to close it 90 degrees, position the closed door how you want it, and fasten it. That way you don't have to worry about finding the right gap.

These hinges helped install a custom door and ultimately resulted in a satisfied customer. They were strong enough to mount this 2' x 3' loft door (made of thin tongue and groove) with only two hinges. I would like to use three, but space and a door limited me to two. They are durable and there is no play in them at the moment. I am happy and they are happy.
