📏 DFM Square Marking Center Precision: Achieving Spot-on Measurements and Alignment Review

Just received this and am impressed so far. I don't have a square to really compare to, to be honest, but it passes the pen test, with the corners closed, even when I press a 12" Mitutoyo ruler against the legs to add length drawn lines. If you put a foot on the granite control panel and shine a flashlight behind it, the light is not visible at all. The legs also extend evenly from end to end, with no noticeable narrowing. Expensive but you get what you pay for.

I was looking for a small, sturdy angle that I wouldn't be afraid to bend or go out of angle while being tossed around in my store's apron (or when my 8th -year-old decides it would work as a ruler for a school project). This square fits perfectly, the build quality is excellent, the color is consistent throughout the tool (no stains or blemishes) and the fact that it also doubles as a center finder for small/narrow boards is a huge plus (the pencil hole even fits a regular one). So don't get me wrong this is a quality product. I like it for other small tasks, but the biggest reason I bought it was to find the center. The center hole for the pen to fit is quite large, which is a bit lacking when using a mechanical pencil for fine detail. Of course using a cheap sharpened pencil sharpened to the point would work, but that would add an extra 2mm thick line, which I wouldn't call accurate. Poor anodization is the first thing that struck me right out of the box. You can see in the picture that the larger center hole has a 4mm spot missing or thinly anodized and the bottom hole 90 has a smaller spot. Came wrapped in foam so it was definitely a QC accident. On the positive side, it is very angular and well made. I'll try the exchange and see if I'm lucky next time, if not I'll live with it. I only expect better with the Made in USA seal. I was disappointed after receiving this fancy tiny square but will keep it. A little under two thousand outside and about a thousand inside, plus there is a tiny hump on a short stem near the inside corner. I can try to fix it with stones but that would ruin the anodizing. Maybe I'll keep it for quick reference or maybe give it to a woodworking friend.
