Not for hard steel!

I bought these with the intention of using them to sharpen a hard steel axe. I've tried using manual files before; they would only slightly bite into the steel with very little material removal. These were even worse. I've tried a very rough one and it just glides over the steel without taking anything off.

Pros
  • Whetstones
Cons
  • Out of fashion

and in this case it fits perfectly

Suberb Stones! I also got an 8000 grit stone and it works great for the occasion too. An absolute must for your bug bag or for your next hike (if you know how to hand sharpen). You still need to have a 16k grit (or 30k grit for that matter) Shapton stone or a good razor sharpener, if you can find one it just depends on how sharp you like your knives. They cut fast and do what they promise and they do it beautifully.

Pros
  • Hand Tool
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

I'm still here after a year!

I have had this kit for a year and a half as of this writing and it continues to be very effective. I first bought them for the sharpening system that came with the mineral honing stones and I'm this crazy cutter dealing with steels like 3V, 110V, CTS-XHP, Elmax and all sorts of other high wear steels. which are really best sharpened on diamond stones. A few months later I bought the Wicked Edge system. But they are still useful! I use them to smooth aggressive scales on the handle and also…

Pros
  • Hand Tool
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled
