Worked fine for a few months

This product revived my 95 SL 1 for a few months before it broke. I checked and broke one of the teeth that slides under the lock ring. It must have given him enough room to jump out. Luckily I was in the parking lot when it happened. I was able to snap it back into place but I'm afraid it will happen again in the middle of heavy traffic making the car uncontrollable. I'll look around for a better quality replacement.

    • Very good price

    • Something different

    Tabs bend easily

I found this part after my (former) mechanic said it would cost $700 to replace the entire cable. This part is really cheap in two senses. The tabs fold back easily, the ring pops out and I doubt this part will last long. As soon as I find the ring again, I glue it back on. I plan to buy this part next time (Torque Solution Shift Cable Bushings: Saturn Sc Sw Sl1 Sl2 1991-2003) as it gets much better reviews and is not more expensive.

    Expensive but effective

If you look around you know this two cent piece of plastic costs about $20 in most places, but when you need it, you need it. Fear not - this one works like a champ. I suggest lubricating it with silicone compound or other plastics (or dry lube is even better). DO NOT use regular lube unless you want to significantly reduce its life (do your research and you'll see that mineral oil destroys regular plastic). This probably made the original so brittle that it exploded.

    Cannot snap

Instructions are not easy as the images are blurry and black and white. I had to research the internet and watch videos on youtube to figure out how to install this. I'm almost done with this, but I can't get the cable to snap into the grommet. I've been fiddling with it for over an hour, trying to snap it into place with my hands and various clamps, but it won't snap no matter what I do. A few teeth broke off so I guess I'll have to take them out and try again with a new bushing. I'll buy…

It worked fine for 2 months, then it failed

I'm a complete newbie to car repairs, the part fitted perfectly and was fairly easy to install. I couldn't get the metal ring to stay inside. Lasted about 2 months. Not much stuck when it broke after 2 months. Directions were fine and watching a few YouTube videos helped too. The part cost less than $20 and it would have cost us over $200 to have a mechanic replace it. The car doesn't cost much more, so I didn't want to pay a lot of money for the repair, but if it doesn't last more than 2…

    • Something else to add
