Will not work with replacement gas caps

I am sure this is fine and will work great as long as you have the original gas cap. If you have a standard replacement cap, THIS WILL NOT WORK. I wish the description was a bit clearer as I bought two for the two gas caps that lost the wire when we swapped the gas caps. It says so on the packaging but I didn't see it in the description.

  • Excellent design

This is normal but when used with a Gates 31832 gas cap on a 2001 GMC Sierra the ring will not work. It is recommended to drill a hole in the top of the black cover and use a push pin to secure the cable. To avoid damaging the ventilation system, remove the black cap from the white valve gasket before drilling. The black cap can be removed by pulling it to the side while rotating the white valve assembly down and around the black cap until the locking tabs release.

  • Quality construction

  • Exorbitant price

Don't lose any more gas caps!

My wife and I both left the gas cap on the car and lost the cap. I used one of these with a little modification and my cap was hanging on the tank cap. Works great and saves me from buying replacement caps every month. Very easy and at a good price. I personally did not use a metal ring. Instead, I drilled a small hole in the gas cap handle to secure one end of the cable. I attached the other end to the tank cap. It worked for almost a year on both machines I installed it on.

  • An absolute legend

PITA to treat after installation

If they could have bent the raw edges of the spring steel ring to fit where your rubber ring used to be, they would be easier to insert and could work without the rubber cable loosening or having to hold tight. If I did it again, I'd pay more to get one that works without having to work around raw edges by gripping the gas cap as I twist it. After the trip I finally took them off. It's easier to just attach the fuel cap to the bed rail. Pay for a genuine replacement if you want to replace a…

some adjustment is required.

First I'm ordering this for my Honda Accord 05 petrol tank. Now the first issue to contend with. Neither connector is holding the harness strap to the wire ring. I asked them to fix this problem by adding a screw. I used epoxy on the bottom to hold the fork. Now the next is the wire ring. In order for it to fit easily around the cap, you will need to bend the ends slightly so they don't cut into the side of the cap as you twist. This is what I found what I needed to just get it working. But for

Good easy to install product if you have a standard non-blocking gas cap.

broken or missing. However if you have a gas shut off cap this won't help without a little ingenuity, a short coarse thread screw and washer AND being careful to stay away from the locking mechanism. I attached mine to the stant I bought about an inch from the lock cylinder where the center of the lid turns down at a 45 degree angle. It works, but is perhaps a little more than a non-mechanic would like.

Cons
  • . Poorly thought out.

works but the essentials

I installed this on my Subaru Outback Limited 05 when the native latch broke near the fuel filler door. It works - snapped around the lid, locked the other side in the door, no problem. However, unlike the original holder, the metal ring is difficult to rotate around the gas cap, and the length of the strap is a little short. It is fully functional - I was able to open the fuel door and lock and unlock the lid. However, because the metal ring doesn't rotate, it pulls on the strap when you…
