🚦 Dorman 923-206 Center High Mount Stop Light for Ford / Mazda Models Review

I bought tbis to replace the stock red third brake light on a 2000 Ford Ranger XL which leaked every time it rained. I really liked that this light had cargo lights as well, but the included gasket didn't stop the leak. I ended up buying a separate gasket and it doesn't leak now, but I'm skeptical that the color of this bulb is different from the OEM bulb.

I ordered this because I was told it would fit my 97 F350. Not correct. I knew there might be some rewiring and that's not a problem for me, I'm an electrician. I changed the wire connectors and proceeded to install, but they were slightly larger than the original and the holes didn't match. I found a used one at the junkyard. I think I should have bought a new or old truck then the parts would be easy to find. LAUGH OUT LOUD

I used this to replace the original 3rd brake light on my 2005 Ford F250. It took about 5 minutes to install and the truck looks a lot better. The clear lenses in the old steel are brownish in color and the light just couldn't shine through them well. Make sure you order an extra gasket to prevent water leaks. I used that on the new light, along with an extra one. Everything fits again with no problems and no leaks.

My OEM high mount stop light has been leaking water through a gasket into its housing for several years. I applied a large coat of grease around the seal a couple of times a year to control leakage, but eventually the seal failed completely. I replaced the gasket but it was still leaking and since the lenses were a bit cloudy I decided to just replace the entire unit. After assembly I wrapped it in a thin silicone bead and now I have a bright, leak proof high mounted brake light.

It looks like this direct replacement might suffer from the same ailment as the original. The gasket doesn't look solid enough to prevent leaks over the years. It's thin and doesn't seem to provide the required seal over time. But I will take a wait-and-see attitude towards him. Also, the internal wiring could be better positioned inside the block so that it does not rest against and interfere with the gasket. I felt the need to push it in deeper so it wouldn't bother the seal over time. Just…
