They work as advertised and are stable

I bought them about 3 months ago and took the advice to turn the potentiometer clockwise a few times and then using a DMM turn the potentiometer counterclockwise until the correct tension is reached. I've gotten them for a variety of uses, but mainly to step up the voltage to a 120mm 12VDC fan (up from 5VDC) in a custom RPI case I've repurposed from a PC power supply . They work GREAT! Of course, PC fans draw almost no current, so I didn't expect the module to get hot, and it doesn't. I used…

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Tradeable

All 10 work fine but not in the high hundred mA

Quickly tested all 10. I did all tests with 5V input and 12V output. Uses an oscilloscope to test the output. First into a 165 ohm load, about 73 mA. Everything worked fine with about 40mV switching noise at 1.2MHz. I randomly picked one to test further. With a 20 ohm load for 600 mA, the device would sometimes shut down for a split second. The chip feels very hot. Although the datasheet says 600mA and 12V is acceptable. This at a high level. I switched to a 30 ohm load for 400mA and all is…

  • This is amazing

  • Some errors

Reliably boosts voltage to desired output

I specifically use them to boost voltage from 3V to 5V (for USB devices) or 12V (for LED strips). I've installed two so far and they work pretty well. The pot is very sensitive, so you can turn it up tenths of a volt or less. The pads are pretty easy to solder. The power supply is relatively clean, I do experience some flickering on the LED strip but that seems to dissipate fairly quickly - for sensitive applications you may need to run a capacitor to clear things up a bit. The device is…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
