I was starting out baking my own bread and was finding it difficult to get even slices so I decided to try this to help. Straight out of the box, I unpacked it and it broke. I compared different bread slicers and decided on this one. I'm SO glad I did because it was cheap and does the job perfectly! I make 1 1/2 pound loaves in my bread maker and the loaf is perfect for slicing. To be honest, I wanted to buy a $30 bamboo slicer, but it's not even necessary (plus, bamboo tends to split over time). It's good quality and I couldn't be happier with it! I'm hard to please when it comes to kitchen appliances so trust my review more than others lol!

I have 3 problems with it otherwise I would give 5 stars. First, the knife slot closes at the top, so to open it you have to stick your fingernail in to insert the knife, which is annoying. Second, the base doesn't lock at a right angle. So unless you are VERY careful your cut will not be straight. Third, we bought this because we bought a bread maker. Works great. Has a very small defect. It may have happened during delivery. Close the knife slot at the top. It came in a padded envelope and may have caused the problem. I will try to heat it with a hair dryer and separate it a bit. I have revisited my review due to an issue I found while doing so. I often make bread with a rather firm appearance. This well designed device is unfortunately quite fragile. While figuring out how to use it, I broke it right out of the box.
