You can't tell if you clicked and started the timer or not - started and stopped the timer multiple times just to make sure it was up and running. I use this scale for infusing coffee and it works great for that purpose. The weight is accurate to the tenth, the display is easy to read, and most importantly, the auto shut-off doesn't bother you in the middle of a pour (I think it waits 10 minutes of inactivity).
