Perfect fit for 1979 Corvette C3

I bought this for my 1979 Vette which still had the original rear seal and was losing oil fairly constantly. Installation was easy, just make sure the lip of the gasket is facing the right direction or you'll have to reinstall the gasket. No more drops flow, very satisfied.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Almost OK

84 Vette, no more leaks!

Nice little kit, wish it had instructions for use but I did a little searching and found how to use the little white tab. It is used to insert the seal when the crank is mounted. The kit also includes a slippery oil pump shaft mount, the original is a two piece deal that would be a nightmare to install under the car. The one provided with the kit snaps into place and locks the shaft. Very well designed! If only he had instructions or a damn picture. Either way, no more leaks!

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • There are new competitors

Lip Seal Reposition .030

I purchased this item unaware that the .030 Lip Seal was repositioned at an OEM shop. The purpose is to seal off an area of the main neck that was not previously used. I had no idea such a product existed but it was just what I needed! Quite by accident I ordered this seal and when I received it I found that I had not checked the P/N. I went to the Fel Pro website and found out about repositioning. It doesn't usually happen to me, but this time I was lucky. And so I pass this knowledge on toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Meets or exceeds all OE Specifications
Cons
  • Fits

Works perfectly! for spare parts

(Application = Gen-1 SBC 350, 1978 Blazer) This was my first car rear main seal repair and ended up being a much simpler and easier repair than I expected; The old gasket was released by gently pressing with a small screwdriver and needle nose pliers (don't touch the crank!). I was able to fit a new gasket with the shoehorn, but the lip of the block sheared off the back of the gasket slightly - I highly recommend deburring this lip before you start installing the gasket around the crank intoโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Rear main bearing oil seal installation kit
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

It worked. Fixed!

Lots of information on the web about old cranks that have a worn groove on the rear main sealing surface. Replacing a leaking rear main oil seal with the exact same seal or a different brand seal made to OEM specifications will ensure the leak returns quickly. This gasket is designed so that the sealing lip is offset from the position normally specified by the OEM (in this case a GM/1981 Chevy 350 block). When the sealing lip is moved a few mm, the lip slides over the fresh sealing surfaceโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Special version for a perfect fit
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
