Description of Fox Run 6601 Grapefruit Knife: Premium Stainless Steel & Plastic, 7.75 x 1.25 x 1.25 inches

7.75 x 1.25 x 1.25 inch. Made of durable stainless steel with a wooden handle. Dual-ended knife, perfect for scooping and cutting into the round grapefruit shape. Curved, double riveted blade quickly frees sections from rind, finely serrated blade cuts and separates sections from membrane. Less mess, will cut without squirting juice.

Very Good Overall - Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

Works well for the most part. It's very durable and doesn't feel flimsy at all. 4 out of 5 because it's a bit difficult to clean between the blades and because it doesn't separate the membrane 100% but 85%. I would still recommend it over a standard paring knife.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Slightly Torn

Good with fruit and vegetable tool mods

This knife seems like a great idea and it works really well after the mod. I had to grind a thin gasket so the dual blades had a small hole for the diaphragm. We didn't dare bend the blades as it looked like it could end in disaster! In general we are now happy with how it works and how well it is made.

Pros
  • Not only useful for the intended purpose
Cons
  • There are bugs

Misleading description

The knife I received was not double edged or bladed and did not have a wooden handle. It was a regular grapefruit knife I could buy at the grocery store for $3. Don't know if it's worth sending back. Need better item descriptions. Apparently, the double-edged knife of this company is no longer produced. I will look elsewhere. Very misleading descriptions.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • I will write later

Not Grandma's Grapefruit Tool

I learned how to use those cheap, single-edged, curved, serrated grapefruit tools as a kid, but this one is way better because it has a dual blade that lets you cut BOTH sides of the Membrane can cut at once. When used correctly, you can easily and quickly "slice" a grapefruit (or orange) into easy-to-open pieces. (And you can always squeeze the juice afterwards.) Remember to brush between the blades each time you're done, as the springy action will grab the pulp.

  • Resolved
Cons
  • Some Problems

Design needs revision

Unfortunately the product description on Revain does not state that "double diaphragm blades" although separate as they should have come to a closed point! This is shown in the image above. It is not possible to place double blades on each side of the grapefruit segment membrane. Stainless steel blades can be "severed" but they will bounce back. I modified mine by adding a 2mm spacer between the dual blades, making it easy to position the blades on each side of a separate membrane. Awkward but…
