Worst performing HD on the market - VERY UNRELIABLE

I have previously reported that I have purchased 10 of these HDs in the last 12 months. They have been highly recommended by industry and video professionals. At first they were amazing. I loved everything about them. That motivated me to buy so many. HOWEVER, those G-Drives began to fail. At first I thought it had to happen. They are mechanical and things fail. But then I had another failure, then another. G-Technology SUPPORT IS NOT AVAILABLE. Nobody is ever available. No replies to community

Can be returned to Computers and Accessories

The style and appearance of the device is very appealing! However, I am not enthusiastic about the functionality of the device. I think if you exceed 5TB for an external drive the software requirements are quite different. I'm not sure how 10TB is supposed to work, but I'm not too happy with a Windows 10 app. It takes a little/much longer to download all files than my 5TB drive. I don't care about the position of the power cord and USB cable. , better. I feel like I can go back. I had to call…

A little bit like it used to be

If you've had a WD Elements USB drive before, you know what it's like. The G-Tech 4TB is about the same size and shape as the old Elements drive, but weighs even more. G-Tech is made from durable, sandblasted aluminum. There is a white "G" logo on the front that also doubles as a power and activity indicator. Inside is a NAS class "RED" drive from Western Digital (WDC WD40EMRX-82UZ0N0). The drive has two small FAT 32 partitions and one macOS-compatible HFS partition of just over 3.5TB. Windows…

USB 2.0 speed with USB-C connector

Pretty quiet drive that won't bother you when it's on for a long time. That's a lot of storage space for the price. USB connection has options. The writing speed is quite constant and corresponds to the technical specifications. It's a good drive, but don't expect the speed you'd expect from USB-C. USB-C reaches 20 Gbps and can power the device without an additional power adapter. It isn't what it is. The specs say it's 195 Mbps, which isn't fast. Fast hard drives from 500 Mbit/s. That's about…

Failed within 4 months

I have about 30 external drives. I've never seen a drive fail so quickly, but it certainly happens when you're working with that many drives. I love the form factor and feel of this drive, but reliability is my number one priority for any drive and this one failed completely and quickly. I suspect that the data is intact and that the corpus is bad. The power connector seems a bit sloppy even compared to my other G-Drive. The indicator lights up, but the disc does not rotate. We contacted the…

Best external hard drive we've ever used

My husband is a super engineer! He has gigs and gigs from external hard drives all over the house. He has tried almost every external hard drive. Unfortunately, some of the brands he used broke out of nowhere and he had to try to move the internal files to another hard drive without corrupting the data. It's always a big problem for him because he makes every effort to research the make and model type of hard drive and he always spends a lot of money to make sure he gets a quality hard drive…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
