Unreliable: Training & Fitness

I like the accurate heart rate measurement but it stopped working three weeks after purchase. I put in a new battery and it stopped working. I explained to Garmin customer service that I rely on it for marathon training and that they could replace it within 10 business days at best. Revain shipped it to me the same day I originally ordered it. Pretty PO'd. Good product when it works.

Precision HRM Wristband: Fitness Technology

Excellent addition to the Garmin Fore Runner 235. Much more accurate and sensitive than any wrist monitor. I compared it to an EKG monitor at a cardiac rehabilitation center and it tracks great. My understanding is that all wrist monitors track the pulse in the wrist bloodstream and then calculate the average heart rate while the chest strap measures the actual heart rate. With a wrist monitor, heart rate readings lag behind actual heart rate.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • No Automatic

Doesn't transfer data

The main problem is that it doesn't transfer data. The sensor will predictably connect to any device, but you're lucky enough to get actual heart rate data from it. With four different apps, I only get a signal that yes, the sensor is connected, but the heart rate field is blank. Garmin support, which is slow to respond, just gives the same tiresome Bluetooth pairing instructions. It's a bit strange that they can't even figure out the problem from the screenshots (which I've shown here).

Does not connect/talk to a commercial gym.

Post bypass surgery The heart rate function of the Fenix 5X and the chest monitor are very important. The Garmin HRM is a handy chest heart rate monitor that can be easily connected to my Fenix 5X at any time. I'm so comfortable I wear it golfing and cycling. History taught me how to install a new battery right out of the box, so longevity isn't an issue. It also has ANT functionality but only gets 4 stars because it cannot connect/talk to commercial exercise bikes or Precor ellipticals at the…

Doesn't work as advertised.

VERY REMOVED from GARMIN HRM-Dual. Although I have a Garmin Fenix 5S which should be compatible with a heart rate monitor, the watch app does NOT list HRM-Dual as a device option (for pairing). I switched to the computer (as recommended on the Garmin website - that alone tells me it's a known issue but hasn't been disclosed to the point of sale or marketing) but that just told me that I to replace the battery. Wait, this is a brand new device and I need to replace the battery when I open the…

Can't connect it to devices

I connected it to my phone I it worked for a day. Now it won't work. I haven't been able to pair it with my two Garmin Edge computers yet. Tech support suggested changing the battery (straight out of the box?). I've had 2 previous farm belts (simple) that never needed a battery change (over 7 years). I lost every strap. I'm leaving. Replaced the battery and still can't pair anything. The phone says it's connected, but HR doesn't show up in the Health app. Can't get Edge to recognize the…

Disappointed with fitness tech

First of all the quality of the product is excellent, the strap and monitor seem to be of good quality. BUT this is in no way what I was hoping for. I have a Garmin Instinct that I love when I'm training. I don't always wear a watch because I need wristbands or other gear, so I was hoping this heart rate monitor would be a way to keep track of my heart rate and allow me to use wristbands. Apparently this device only works with the watch and will not connect to the Garmin Connect app. From what…

It just works. For training and fitness

Instant pairing with Garmin Edge 520 (ANT+), Forerunner 630 (ANT+), iPhone 8 (BT) and MacBook Pro (BT). Having both ANT+ and Bluetooth is a good thing and makes it a worthwhile upgrade over the previous ANT+ only padded HRM. (Note that I've had issues with Zwift, but I blame Zwift, not HRM, as I'm also having issues with my power meter). Everything else works as expected. I sweat like hell and have never had a problem with it. The strap is comfortable and holds the fit well. I take it in the…

Not really better than the Wahoo Tickr

I've been using the Wahoo Tickr for a few years and had some issues where it stopped updating heart rate for a while wanted to try Garmin , so I will compare them. Pairing with phones and bike computers is about the same, although it took my phone over 10 seconds to see the Garmin. The bike computer (Wahoo Elemnt) connected perfectly to the Garmin Dual. I can't comment on Garmin's battery life, but the Wahoo's battery lasts quite a while. The main differences are in the ease of use. The Wahoo…

HRM-Dual can do everything you need right away

Received my new Garmin HRM-Dual heart rate chest strap from Revain today and took it straight to my cycling class Columbia Pike bike bar. I love it! This is exactly what I needed. It supports two Bluetooth signals as well as ANT+. Now I don't need Garmin 010 10997 00, Polar H7 and Scosche Rhythm+ series straps which can be combined together to connect with Concept2 PM5, iPod Touch, Garmin 920xt and even Keizer M3 and Schwinn bikes. BICYCLE. Technically, HRM-Dual transmits real-time heart rate…
