Be careful when returning an item.

Garmin liked it, but didn't like that it didn't have GPS. This is sold separately. Also, be careful when returning this item through the seller. There is a $100+ top-up. I wasn't happy about that.

Great Pad Bad Literature

I like this fish finder but Garmin really needs to provide much better tutorials to read ie. How to find a thermocline. How to interpret the output on the screen. Every fish finder is different and this one is no exception. Would love to see a comprehensive guide showing a wide range of real screenshots with detailed explanations of what you are seeing.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad

Don't follow the picture. no maps.

Too bad I didn't look at the reviews. GPS with contour map. apparently means no GPS maps. It's basic and the sonar is great, but the huge yellow screen with no map other than a trace of where you were threw me until I checked the reviews. What very upset. I just saw a chart in Amazon's product marketing and assumed the device was a combination chartplotter and sonar. Guilty. .but I still gave a low rating for false advertising. I would have sent it back but it was installed and past the 30 day…

Previously very good in automotive and automotive electronics

Like so far. Very easy to install on a trolling motor. A very simple menu system will get you on the water in minutes. It starts almost immediately unlike my Lowrance. The large screen is very bright and clear. The side view is interesting. I'm not sure how often I'll use it in our lake, but I found a sunken boat I didn't know about. Generally very pleasant. I don't need charts on our inland lakes, so it didn't hurt to keep a few hundred versions of charts from Lowrance, Hummingbird, and…

Data transfer not optimal

I am a professional fisherman. I only use Garmin combos. I'm not a tech guru, but I can follow directions. I spent a few hours transferring data from my 2012 GPSMAP 541s SD card to my new Striker 7 plus sv. This is a great device and I can't wait to get it working but I'm waiting for my 17 year old son to figure out how to transfer data to the Active Captain app and to the Striker 7 sv plus. If either of you have 17 year old sons, no problem. Overall Garmin is a great product. Captain Doc

There are no cards! Misleading Descriptions

Good. So I installed it, which was semi-easy/straight. I fixed some more on the boat and now when I finally want to get it out I notice THAT THERE IS NO CARD ON IT! I'm ashamed that I don't read reviews and don't trust their dubious marketing wording. But YOU CAN'T EVEN BUY THE TICKETS! You can download the community overview maps, which is a joke. Pretty pissed. They should bring that price down a lot. Not worth the money. Choose Simrad Hummingbird or Lowrance if you need cards at this price…

No chart plotter but we cost money

Excellent fish finder. Love LOVE pics down and sideways. Easy to use and very bright screen. Please note that there is NO PLOTTER DIAGRAM. It has GPS so you can add and return to waypoints, but no plotter. I use a chart plotter app on my phone and I like it better and it's a lot cheaper than buying a nautical chart. Personally, I think that's a good value even without a chartplotter. I have not found any other side imaging fish finder at this price. I bought 2 of these. I put one on the wheel…
