GE 18275 Phenolic Socket Black Review

I had to replace a switch that was starting to fail on one lamp in the kit. It had a metal mount so I was reluctant to order a plastic replacement but I didn't have a choice due to the harp and fittings. The husband recently changed the socket and repaired the lamp without much difficulty, and the lamp works like new. Maybe better. He mentioned that removing the old outlet was more difficult than installing this new one. I would buy it again.

Now that I have found a good and cheap 3 way LED light bulb I am happy to replace the bulbs in many lights around the house. A lamp near the front door only had a two position socket so I ordered a 3 pin socket to replicate it. The work took a maximum of 10 minutes: Unscrew the original socket, mount the base for this new one, strip the wires a little longer and hook/screw to the terminals. Whamo-Presto, 3-way dimmable lamp.

Not being able to find this item at my local hardware store was exactly what I was looking for! I was about to throw the lamp away but decided to fix it when I saw the part on Revain for less than $4. The hardest part was attaching the lamp wires to the screws on the base and then tightening the screws so the wire wouldn't slip out. I don't know how to change the socket to make it easier, but I did my job to make sure my husband's bedside lamp still matches mine.

EDIT - 2 out of 3 not working properly. They don't switch the bulb to 3 power levels, just 1 or 2. And I use them with copper wiring. I bought another brand and had better luck. My old switch in my Target bulbs moved so much and wasn't tight that it kept blowing out my expensive three-way bulbs. only the part of the socket where the electrical wires are connected has been replaced. No more flickering, flickering lights or blown bulbs!

This is an incredibly unfortunate design with non-standard socket threads. Will not fit most standard 1/2" socket as it is 1/4" socket. It is neither on the packaging nor in the product description. This is incredibly bad design. Good thing I only needed the outlet switch itself. I gutted it and used my old socket base and threw away the rest as it's completely useless. DO NOT BUY IF YOU NEED A TERMINAL AND BASE FOR A STANDARD 1/2" threaded socket.

If you buy this make sure you put glue on the grip screw shank. The handle comes off after a while as it is plastic and screws onto a metal screw. After a while, it just spins on the shaft without turning the light on or off. I used epoxy on the small shaft after the switch was assembled and installed.
