🔧 Precision Metal Marking Gage by General Tools 820: Accurate and Reliable Measurements Review

Measurements are hard to see/read, the turnbuckle is small and should be a wing nut so it's easier to squeeze, maybe it's just that I have pretty big hands but it's hard to hold place and tighten.

The screw used to tighten the gauge must be a wing nut. Having to take out the hex key to adjust it every time is agony. The engraving for measurements isn't deep enough, making it difficult to read.

The face face surface is scratched when scraped with a fresh sharp cut but the base metal is fine. Good enough, just detach the edge before dragging. The staff is too shiny to see the graduation, but I'm still working with the metric, so I'll bring my own measuring tool.

A long time ago I had one. Couldn't find it anywhere so I finally found it here. Great for marking pots etc. The only thing I found different was the tip. I remember it was a carbide tip but now it looks like something else. Not sure if it will come to a stop quicker or not but time will tell.

The Spike Mark is made of very soft metal. It tarnishes easily and doesn't do very well for marking metals, even with construction fluid. Still 3 stars. I'm sure it's not meant for Metal and that was my intention. For softer materials I'm sure it's great. I will try to change this for my needs. He has good bones.

Not bad for the price. It's a little finicky as the shaft twists easily and the tip comes out of square. Make sure the adjusting screw is against the flat part of the shaft to avoid this. There are very faint markings to measure, but they are unmarked and all the same size, so measuring is a bit difficult. I believe the markings are imperial at 1/16".
