The OEM replacement works great.

Ideal for 1998 Toyota 4 Runner. Be sure to use the correct wrenches when installing the lines, otherwise there will be a leak when reassembling. Do not use ordinary hand tools and use a good quality adjustable wrench on the line side nuts. It took about 5 minutes to put it on and the truck has been running better ever since.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Weight

Good choice for spare parts

So far so good as far as I can tell. Fits snugly on 96 4Runner 4wd. I changed it with all 6 injectors at the same time so I'm not sure how much effect it had. I've used an AUS Injectors Reman if you're interested, highly recommend if you're having fuel issues. My 5VZ-FE definitely seems happier.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Negative impression

Never used. for parts

Either the original or a very good copy. I never managed to install it (prevention) because I couldn't remove the old one without damaging the nuts. Aside from heavy corrosion in 20 years, they appear to be dressed for life. I'll leave it in case the original filter fails, just in case. But overall it's a great looking piece.

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Toyota Genuine Part

This is an OEM replacement part for the fuel filter and fits my '97 Toyota 4Runner SR5 perfectly. Be sure to depressurize the fuel line by removing the gas cap before removing the old fuel filter. There will still be some gas leaking out, so don't stand directly under it when you take it off (ask me how I know). The new filter will be labeled (Input) and (Output), so keep in mind that this is a simple and useful project.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Poorly designed

Avoid. It leaks like crazy no matter what I do

I've changed more fuel filters than I can count. It is almost always routine work. After 5 attempts to install this one it won't stop flowing. I reinstalled the old one. No problem. I ended up going to NAPA and bought their gold filter (PN 3319 I think) for half price. I sealed it the first time. It's an odd deal when an aftermarket part fits better than the manufacturers, but looking online it's obvious that leaks are a common problem with Toyota parts. Some people haven't had any issues, so…

Pros
  • Good price
Cons
  • Bad manual

OEM quality, good price

Fits me very well. Original OEM parts at a good price. Disconnect the fuel pump, start the engine and let it stall. Unscrew the old one (try not to round off the screws), install the new one by putting lubricant on the threads, screw everything back on, hook up the fuel pump, check everything again and start over. Launch will take some time due to the need to recycle fuel through the lines. Let it run for a while and make sure there are no leaks. Took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. I

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No automatic control

Fit perfectly the first time with no leaks, took about 5 minutes to install. It would be wise to get the right wrenches to replace the fuel filter yourself and tighten each side a little instead of going crazy on one side and then the other. I ended up changing my filter 3 times a week to isolate the fuel issue (thought it was the fuel pump, the tank filled with sediment was the sensor after all). But this one came first, then two unnamed ones to save money. I ended up reinstalling it after…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Very simple, you need a 10 mm head.

My 99ft 4runner has done 160,000 miles and there is no record of changing this filter. To calm down, I decided to switch. Very easy, all you need is a 10mm socket to remove the mount from the frame, a 14mm in-line wrench and a 3/4" wrench to secure. Remove the gas cap to relieve the pressure, loosen the two nuts on the steel lines leading to the filter before removing the two 10mm nuts holding it to the frame. You'll lose less than 5 ounces of fuel, so be prepared to keep it out of your sight…
