Not a bad project for a person used to soldering and knows how to read stripes on a resistor. I usually used a color code to check them but there were only 3 different values so I used a component checker to make sure I was reading it correctly. I hate those blue resistors when it comes to reading them because my 70 year old eyes seem to be failing me a little now. The assembly of the kit went without incident. Even surface mount parts were easy to handle with my mini soldering iron. The soundโ€ฆ

Pros
  • This clear stereo electronic speaker kit has to be the most interesting DIY kit you have ever seen. This is a really beautiful speaker box with glowing lights and transparent body.
Cons
  • Price piggy bank

Nice end result but not the first project

This product is an updated version of the EK1831 kit from the same company. I haven't built this kit and don't know how it's different, but this one only uses blue and red LEDs (your choice of 4 blue + 1 red or 5 blue LEDs per speaker) while this one is green, yellow and red LEDs. I didn't find this kit particularly appealing to a beginner in electronics. The "how-to" consists of a schematic (if you can read it), three tips, and enlarged diagrams of the circuit boards you will be solderingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • It is easy to assemble, comes with nuts, bolts and other components, you can do it yourself, cool project and complex enough to be fun.

Fun little project - has a faulty 3.5mm jack - otherwise great

Some reviewers say this set is difficult. There is a surface mount component that is a bit small but not in terms of SMT components. The rest is transparent and pretty easy. I would say the guide is actually pretty good. They have good tips for people starting out in soldering and if you follow them you should be fine with this kit. I assembled in this order and everything worked perfectly (with one exception mentioned below): 1) Chip - (surface mount): tin A pad as instructed, then place theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • The LEDs light up according to the music spectrum.
Cons
  • Periodicity
