Spikes just let them see the collar. She threw all her weight on her usual collar and harness and tried to free herself to chase cars. Did it twice with it, squeaked a bit but there was no sign of it, probably just surprised. The adjustable nature of the spikes also allows them to come loose when the dog twists the collar up, so a good fit is important.

A few months ago I adopted a puppy who was so energetic that it was impossible to handle him every time a person or animal approached. She's not aggressive, she just wants to be "in everything" that comes close to her. I switched from a regular collar to a garrotte and still could barely stick to it. This training collar made an instant difference. Now I can take her for a walk and it doesn't take a drop of my strength and energy to keep her under control.

I love how it stops my Malinois/sheep when they are on the hunt for a cat or coyote! This is a well made collar. I can't comment on durability, but it seems durable. It can definitely be compared to another HS brand but without the center plate. Unfortunately it was too big for my dog even though all but 4 links were removed. That's more my fault than anything. The ends of the spines are well rounded. We picked this collar when we first started dog training. We tried the first class with just a martingale collar. It didn't work so well for our bitch Lucy. It came in the mail after the first session so we took her to the second session and Lucy acted like a completely different dog. Overall this collar appears to be well made. I haven't used it so I can't comment on how well it actually works. Got it in the mail today and realized I forgot to check the size. This is way too much for my 30 lb dog! If using a prong collar, the smaller the prongs the better, and the one I have is for larger dogs. It was my fault, not the seller's.
