Hammond 1591ESBK ABS Project Box in Black Review

Using a dremel I was able to easily cut through the box without tearing. Worked as expected. However, the picture shows the top with four screws. It actually has six screws, so there's a round screw divider in the middle of the box. Plan accordingly. A picture of it is attached. Luckily for my use it was ok.

Bought this temperature controller housing which I assembled for my home hobby. The case worked flawlessly and gave the finished project a professional look. This case contains an Inkbird temperature controller, power input and 2 plugs to connect to your fridge freezer and heating element. I highly recommend this body.

Bought to make a controller for a fermentation chamber for brewing. Works perfectly! Easy assembly and connection. I used this Hammond 1591ESBK project box to mount the controller. The STC1000 is placed at the front of the box and the duplex socket is at the top. I also installed the computer's power connector on the back so I can connect the power cord. I figured it would make assembly better and cleaner than plugging the power cord directly into the STC1000.

Great project box, material is strong so I had no trouble cutting holes (plastic didn't break). This box has tabs on the inside for cards which makes cutting holes a little more difficult but makes the box stronger. Six black screws are attached to the cover. Looks very good. The outside is shiny so be sure to protect it by cutting holes. You can see two solar projects I used boxes for. This was the first time I used project blocks. So if I can do it, almost anyone can!

I used this to make a tutorial on building a mini Raspberry Pi arcade controller. It worked great! The plastic is a bit brittle (be careful when drilling with a hole saw or step drill). It should be noted that the supports at the four corners (where the screws attach) reach to the bottom of the case, making it difficult to fit square or rectangular items into the inside corners of the box. It's not a big problem, but you may have to cut those supports to do this. Overall this is a solid case…

This box is much larger than I expected. I'm ashamed that I didn't pay attention to the sizes. However, the quality is fantastic. Sturdy construction, screws rotate smoothly. The top is snug and actually stays in place with no screws. I used this to build a small junction box for my boat and cut some rectangular holes for the voltage monitors. I used all six screws. 1591ESBK not in ABS. Made from pure styrene. It does NOT have the flame retardancy and durability of ABS. Styrene breaks on impact. The 1591ES is the ABS plastic version of this box and sells for significantly more. Gerber misrepresented his proposal, as anyone who bothers to check Hammond's specs can see. The label inside the box clearly states that the box is made of styrene, so Gerber is complicit in the misrepresentation. You know better. In addition, Gerber does not accept returns for this

While the size of this box isn't exactly what I wanted for my project, it should work for me temporarily. It seems very well done. Very good fit and finish. I probably should have done more research to find something better suited to my project. For those who need a box for a project of this size this seems like a welcome item.
