Great alternative to faded and ugly knobs: BMW and Range Rover L322

I have now ordered 3 or 4 of these replacement knobs for BMW E39 and Range Rover. Factory buttons on BMW keys suck. If you keep them in your bag, they can last about a year before wearing out. I love how easy it is to swap out these buttons and keep the buttons looking brand new. The exchange takes about 10 minutes and looks perfect. When removing old buttons, I strongly recommend taking your time and not partially removing the buttonholes.

  • Free for educational purposes
Cons

What an improvement!

Thought I would have to spend a lot of dollars to replace the key and program it for my 2000 BMW 528i. My key fob looked terrible and the buttons were starting to wear out. I was so happy to find this product. Removing the old knobs was a bit of a chore, but you can do it with a little patience. Putting a new one in isn't difficult, but I found I had to cut off the little red rubber tab that I assume is for the indicator light and trim a bit where the chip is located in the fob. Now my key…

Needs some trimming but works great.

The buttons on my original remote only worked about 25% of the time so I had to manually unlock it with the key. I thought it was a signal problem so I changed the battery. Bad luck. I came across this by accident while looking for another part for my car and decided to give it a try. I think the rubber inside was worn out so the internal switch wasn't fully depressed. The red area had to be cut off for the transponder chip, but now my key works 100%! Make sure you leave the "old" red part in…

If you want to be stupid you gotta be cool

This is perfect but just as a warning to others who are in the process of fixing their own keys I made the mistake of throwing away what I thought was a tiny Piece of plastic that fell out of the key when I opened it. After reassembling the key, I tried the car and the car would not start. At that moment it dawned on me that maybe this piece of plastic wasn't just a broken piece of plastic. It turned out to be a microchip, without which the car would not start. I spent an hour trawling through…

Runs like clockwork

Runs like clockwork. I have a 98 528i and also had to cut off the red tab. I get another one to fix my second key. This is an update. On my key was a small black thing the size of a grain of rice. It didn't show up until I removed the worn out set of 3 buttons. This black "thing" needs to be installed with new buttons. I didn't do it the first time and while the new remote key opened the door and trunk the car wouldn't start. I put the little black thing back under the circuit board and the car

Pros
  • Works great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
